Made in China
Hello!
About our project
From experiences to exports.... Made in China.
30 young people will be investigating Britain's relationship with China from 1500 to the present day at the Durham Oriental Museum!
Fancy joining them? There's still space!
Share thisBritain and China have had a long and complex relationship. This project will trace the journeys of remarkable adventurers as they explored China in search for great riches from the sixteenth century onwards. From silks and spices, to porcelain and tea; from modern clothing and electronics to the 2012 London Olympics games. All of these things have come to Britain from China!
This project will give its young people unprecedented access to the internationally important Chinese collections at the Durham Oriental Museum. They'll get to handle and touch original museum objects and go behind the scenes into the stores! The project will also use old books and manuscripts at the University Archives and will discover how much trade came to Durham from China by looking at archaeological evidence! This will really be a fantastic and exciting hands-on experience for all!
The project will culminate by the young people designing, researching and curating their own exhibition at the Oriental Museum to coincide with the London 2012 Olympics!
